The BMW M50 intake manifold has long been a favorite among enthusiasts building performance inspired BMW classic Inline-6 engines. At Seems Legit Garage, we've supported this style of conversion for years with our popular M50 intake manifold swap kit for M52TU/M54 engines.
Now, CANformance Engineering, our partner from the 8HP swap world, has made a new intake swap option possible for the BMW M5X family: adapting the factory BMW N54 intake manifold to M50, M52, S52 (USA), M52TU, and M54 engines.
Originally designed for BMW's twin-turbocharged N54 engine, the N54 intake manifold offers a compact runner and plenum design for builders looking to explore new intake configurations. This cast aluminum adapter makes the conversion possible while retaining conventional port fuel injection (N52 was direct injected and didnt have traditional injectors).
Dyno-Tested Performance
CANformance developed and tested this adapter on a forged 2.8L M50 engine equipped with 252/244 camshafts and running approximately 20 PSI of boost. Their testing showed improved high-RPM airflow compared with the traditional M50 intake manifold above 6,000 RPM.
Both the classic M50 manifold and the newer N54 manifold conversion have their place in performance builds. The best choice depends on your engine configuration, intended powerband, packaging, and performance goals.

Optional Phenolic Heat Insulating Spacer
For reduced heat soak of intake air and fuel select the optional 10mm heat-insulating spacer.
Manufactured from POM insulating material, this spacer installs between the cylinder head and the aluminum manifold adapter. It creates a thermal barrier to reduce heat transfer from the cylinder head into the adapter assembly, helping keep the fuel rail and injectors cooler.
A worthwhile addition for turbocharged engines, track cars, and other high-heat applications.
Optional M54/M52TU Conversion Kit
Want to run the N54 intake manifold on your M54 or M52TU engine? Select our optional M54/M52TU Conversion Kit, which includes the additional components needed to adapt these cylinder heads.
Just like our popular M50 intake manifold swap kit, this option includes port-matching templates that provide a guide for modifying the cylinder-head intake ports to match the adapter's M50 style port profile. Also included are the grub screws used to seal the IAC air ports on M52TU/M54 heads. Porting not neccessary but a nice touch.

Important Installation Notes
BMW N54 intake manifold is not included.
M52TU/M54 factory fuel rails are NOT compatible with this conversion. A suitable alternative M50 Style fuel rail will be required.
Additional throttle-body, intake plumbing, fuel-system, and engine-management modifications may be required depending on your build.
