Take full standalone control of your BMW N54 while retaining the factory engine harness.

This PNPECU plug-and-play ECU adapter connects the OEM BMW N54 engine harness to either a MaxxECU RACE or MaxxECU GEN2 RACE, making standalone engine management easy whether the N54 is staying in its original chassis or being swapped into another vehicle.

The base product includes the adapter only. Compatible MaxxECU RACE and GEN2 RACE ECUs are available as optional add-ons through this listing.

Port Injection Conversion Required

This adapter is for port-injection-converted N54 engines ONLY.

MaxxECU does not control the factory N54 direct-injection system. The GDI injectors must be removed and properly plugged, and a port-injection fuel system must be installed.

The adapter provides the injector outputs needed to run your port injectors through the auxiliary injector connector. Optional Injector harness available.

N54 Integration

The adapter handles the specialized BSD communication for the alternator, electric water pump, and oil-level/temperature sensor, allowing these factory components to remain functional with the standalone ECU.

MaxxECU RACE

The original MaxxECU RACE is a proven solution for N54 standalone control with electronic throttle, VANOS, boost control, knock control, built-in wideband, CAN communication, logging, traction control, launch control, flex fuel, and advanced engine-protection strategies.

Even after controlling the N54, the RACE still has useful spare I/O available for additional sensors and accessories:

MaxxECU GEN2 RACE

The MaxxECU GEN2 RACE brings the N54 into MaxxECU's latest-generation platform with significantly expanded I/O, dual wideband control, dual CAN, high-speed logging, modern communications, and much more room for future expansion.

The PNPECU V6 adapter features a 40-pin auxiliary connector that directly provides:

4 spare analog inputs
1 spare pulse input
5 spare GPO outputs
2 additional 5A low-side outputs
8 spare EGT inputs

That gives the GEN2 setup plenty of easy expansion for additional pressure, temperature, speed, control, and motorsport functions without cutting into the factory engine harness.

DCT & ZF 8HP Control

MaxxECU also makes this adapter an excellent choice for N54 transmission swaps.

BMW DCT integration is supported through MaxxECU's CAN-based transmission control.

Supported GEN1 ZF 8HP45, 8HP70, and 8HP90 transmissions can also be controlled within the MaxxECU ecosystem, allowing engine torque reduction, rev matching, shift strategies, paddle shifting, launch control, transbrake functions, and transmission control to work together.

8HP control hardware is separate from this N54 ECU adapter. A compatible transmission, MaxxECU 8HP harness, TCU programming, and proper transmission configuration are required.
