String Style Potentiometer
String Style Potentiometer (String Pot)
This enclosed rotary potentiometer is activated by pulling the internal spring-loaded cable, converting linear movement into a clean analog signal.
With up to 10 inches (250mm) of total travel, this unit is ideal for measuring and logging driver inputs such as steering, pedal position, or other linear movements in motorsport applications.
⚠️ For best longevity and accuracy, do not exceed 9 inches (230mm) of cable extension.
Specifications:
Maximum travel: 10" (250mm)
Recommended max travel: 9" (230mm)
3/16" (4.8mm) eyelet cable end
Mounts easily using a #10 screw
Male 4-pin 719 connector
Spring-loaded internal return
Common Uses
We often use this when adding a traditional TPS sensor is difficult — such as on carbureted engines or custom pedal assemblies. This works for sending transmission controllers the TPS signal to operate, not affecting engine control. Because it simply outputs a position signal, you can get creative with mounting:
Throttle pedal position sensing
Steering input logging
Virtual clutch input
Feeding position into controllers like TurboLamik (scaled 0–100%)
Any application where you need to convert linear movement into a usable analog signal
Mount it anywhere you need motion data, scale it in your ECU or controller, and you’re done.
